Our popular Light the Way 5K through Dollywood’s five million holiday lights is getting a new date and time for the ninth annual event!
With current protocols related to COVID-19 safety and social distancing, Keep Sevier Beautiful and Share It Forward, in conjunction with race site host Dollywood, have moved the popular holiday race to the end of the holiday season at the theme park rather than the beginning. The race will be held on Sunday, January 3, 2021, the day after Dollywood closes for the season. Don’t worry though, because all the beautiful holiday lights still adorn the park and provide a unique setting for Light the Way. We also are starting the race much earlier – at 6 p.m. – to give more people an opportunity to participate due to the earlier start time, particularly families that would like to do the race together.
Our race team will take necessary safety precautions including but not limited to prevention of crowding and any indirect contact exposure from packet pick up, first aid stations, and the finish line. The safety of our runners, volunteers, and community members is our main priority as we look to the execution of this year’s Light the Way 5K.
We are excited about the opportunity to continue organizing this race that has become a tradition for many people while also eagerly anticipating presenting the event at this new date and time. Please know that our organizations will continue to monitor COVID-19 throughout the remainder of 2020. There still is a chance that the race could be postponed again/cancelled. If the safety of participants and organizers becomes a safety issue due to coronavirus conditions in December 2020, the event may be cancelled. If that happens, full refunds will be issued to all participants.
The Light the Way 5K Run/Walk is a certified race and will be chip timed and managed by Scenic City Multisport.
